Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? (Galatians 3:2-3 ESV, bold mine)
The unspoken doctrine of the church seems to be, “you’re saved by grace through faith… into works.”
God is not looking for behavior modification, he’s looking for righteousness location. That’s right. He’s looking for you to be in Christ.
The day we stop receiving from the supply of our righteousness in Christ, we start leaving God for our works.
God calls for perfection, and we have that perfection in Jesus.
We don’t modify our behavior. We begin to believe what God says about us and what He has and will do for us, and it transforms us.
Right believing will lead to right living… but right living will never lead to right believing.
