For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. (Romans 4:2 ESV)
Over the next few days I’m going to be allowing you to look into my personal Bible reading/study time. I wanted to make sure I make some things clear before we get into it though…
- Reading the Bible doesn’t make God love you more or less… but it will most likely increase your love for Him.
- If person A reads the Bible for 2 hours everyday, person B reads the Bible for 10 minutes everyday, person C reads the Bible for 30 minutes a week and person D doesn’t read his Bible (he just hears in church)… then God loves person A, B, C and D the same and gives them all the same FREE GIFT of righteousness through Jesus.
- Biblical understanding varies from person to person… it has nothing to do with your “level of spirituality.”
So, why am I showing you how I’m reading the Bible? Because it’s time to disperse of the smoke and mirrors of the disciplines. We’ve got people running around saying things like, “If you haven’t read the Bible and prayed today then you’ve missed your opportunity for God to move.” and, “You haven’t read the Bible unless you’ve read for 30 minutes.” Guess what… if you read the Bible… you read the Bible!
My hope is to encourage you through allowing you to see what I do… and then you can find your own pattern and show someone else.
So, tomorrow and Thursday we’ll talk about what I’m doing… just wanted to prep you today!
