Now Lot went up out of Zoar and lived in the hills with his two daughters, for he was afraid to live in Zoar. So he lived in a cave with his two daughters.
(Genesis 19:30 ESV)
The above passage occurs right after the destruction of Sodem.
Originally, the angel that rescued Lot told him to, “escape to the hills.” But Lot replied saying that he was unable to do so… then he recommended this little city that was near called Zoar. The angel complied with his request.
So Lot is in Zoar and Sodem starts getting torn to shreds. After it was devastated, Lot goes to check out the damage… then he tells his family, “Alright… we’re going to the Hills.”
Lot knew he needed to be in the Hills before anything ever happened to Sodem… but for whatever reason, he didn’t want to go there. But when he sees how bad everything turned out for Sodem, he decides to get right where he knows he needs to be.
How often do we do this? We KNOW what we NEED TO DO, or where we NEED TO BE… but just don’t do it. Probably for some stupid reason. Probably for a reason we can’t even articulate. And then all hell breaks loose in our lives and we say, “Well… it’s time to go to the Hills!”
God wants you blessed and not stressed. There is an oasis of peace in the place you ought to be. Go there now so you don’t have to in the aftermath of destruction.
