Article Writer / Ghost Writer
Purpose of Job
To create more opportunities for people to interact with helpful resources and gospel content while assisting search engine algorithms in connecting our materials to the questions people are asking.
Job Description
This role falls somewhere between a copywriter and a ghostwriter. We are not necessarily looking for someone to pretend to be Jason Mayfield, but all articles should be written in the first person and in the same “voice” as the video is presented in.
Please know that Jason Mayfield writes a considerable amount of his own materials (all of it as of January 2024). This is less about writing and more about repurposing content.
Article
Primary task: create an article (750 words minimum) from video/audio content. An outline/sermon notes will occasionally be provided, but the video will often be the only source.
The article will be organized with headings.
Throughout the audio/video, there will be impromptu or “passing” mentions of scripture. Those will need to be identified and placed in the article in addition to the apparent uses of scripture.
Key verses can be copied and pasted from biblegateway.com. Use the English Standard Version ESV unless otherwise noted.
SEO Friendly Description
Task: Create an approximately 120-word description for each video.
Timestamps
Task: Create a list of time markings for each video. Ideally, these will align with the headings in the article.
Example:
0:00 - Intro
1:27 - Video Start
4:37 - 1. Jesus is enough.
5:10 - Ephesians 2:8
8:43 - 2. Jesus will always be enough.
and so on...
List of Scriptures
A list of all scriptures used will need to be provided. Many scriptures will be provided, but anytime Jason uses a phrase such as the Bible says, you must find and cite those verses.
What This is Not
This role does not include creating content. You will not be finding illustrations and examples and adding to the content. All material will be derived from the audio/video provided.
This is not a transcription job. We do not need a word-for-word transcript from the media provided.
Tools
This task must be completed in Google Docs or Notion. You must be technically proficient enough to share your work without needing support. (During an interview process, you can use whatever software you’re comfortable with so long as you can provide a file that can be opened on an Apple device.)
Compensation
$50 per article (8-10 articles per month)
A nondisclosure agreement is required.
