What you need to know about

salvation

  1. You’re a sinner

“Jason, you don’t know me!”

You’re right, but I know you’re a sinner because the Bible says that we’ve all sinned!

Romans 3:23 ESV - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Jesus is the savior of the world! But like… from what?

Jesus, in many ways, saves us from ourselves! We are naturally sinful people… even the best of us are sinful.

Romans 3:10–12 ESV - As it is written: None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”

Being sinful carries great cosmic consequences…

2. Your sin is enough
to send you to Hell

It’s possible that this might be coming on a little strong…
but I want to make sure I’m being clear.

Our personal sin is grievous enough, in contrast to the holiness of God Almighty, that it is just and warrantable for us to spend an eternity in Hell as consequence for our grievous sin.

Romans 6:23 ESV - For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In this instance, it’s important that we don’t look at the substance of an individual sin. I understand that when you compare a small lie to a mass murder, it can be hard to frown on the small lie. Actually, in light of mass murder… I would encourage small lies! Small lies are seemingly virtuous in comparison to mass murder!

But we’re not comparing sin to sin, where the gamut seems unjustly wide. We’re comparing all sin against the Holiness of God. And in that comparison, a murder and a lie start looking much closer.

It’s like comparing sand to water. We live in Florida, and on the Gulf of Mexico beaches, we have very white sand; on the Atlantic side, the sand is brown. When you look at the two sands, they’re obviously different. But when you compare the sand to water, the color doesn’t really matter. The substance is so starkly different than water that it’s just sand.

So whether you tell small lies, watch pornography, or exterminate a small subdivision, in contrast to the Holiness of Almighty God… it’s all sin!

3. There is Hope

While it’s true that your sin is severe enough to warrant an eternity in Hell, God, in His gracious mercy, provided a way to be saved from eternal damnation.

Romans 6:23 ESV - For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The New Testament constantly reinforces the sufficient power of Jesus Christ to save you.

Amazing facts about Jesus.

Jesus is God made manifest amongst us.

John 1:1-14, Colossians 1:19
(This is a doctrine called The Trinity that you will learn more about on your faith journey.)

Jesus was born into a fleshly body by a virgin mother.

Matthew 1:18-25

Jesus lived a completely sinless life.

2 Corinthians 5:21

Jesus died on a Roman cross for our sin.

Matthew 27:45-54, Philippians 2:8, Galatians 3:12-14

Jesus rose from the dead.

Matthew 28:1-10, Mark 16:1-8, Luke 24:1-12, John 20:1-18, 1 Corinthians 15:14

Jesus ascended to Heaven and will come again!

Luke 24:50-53, Acts 1:6-11, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Not to mention, Jesus fulfilled over 300 Old Testament prophecies, but those references would consume this entire page!

Because Jesus did all of this, He is able to save us from death, Hell, and the grave!

Hebrews 7:25 ESV - Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

4. You Can Be Born Again

Salvation is available to everyone who is willing to receive it! Many Christians call this the “born again” experience. That’s a great way to describe it!

John 3:3,16 ESV - Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” | “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

When you’re born again, you go from spiritual death to spiritual life, so much so that the Bible says you’re a new creation.

2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

what to do now

Giving your life to Jesus Christ is a lifelong journey that starts in a single moment. Here are 3 things you can do to be saved.

  1. Acknowledge that you’ve sinned.

This doesn’t require any grand act, but you need to be fully aware that you have indeed sinned, and that sin has disqualified you from eternal life.

  2. Believe in Jesus Christ.

Above, I gave you a list of several things Jesus accomplished that qualify Him to save you, but the Bible says that you must believe in one thing above all else.

Romans 10:9 ESV - …because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

You must believe that Jesus was raised from the dead in order to be saved!

3. Confess Jesus is Lord.

Confession is two-fold. Firstly, it is a personal confession to your own soul that you’re willing to submit your life to the plans and purposes of Jesus Christ. Secondly, it’s a public profession of faith. We aren’t Christians behind closed doors, but rather for the world to see!

Right now, I want to give you an opportunity to do both sides of confession.

Once you do this, I have no doubt that you are a born-again believer who is saved by the magnificent grace of Jesus Christ.

Say this prayer wherever you are.

I would encourage you to say it out loud.

“Dear Jesus, I realize I’m a sinner, and I need a savior. I’m asking You to save me in this moment. I want to be a Christian, and I confess here and now that You are the Lord of my life.

I believe You are God in the flesh. I also believe You lived a sinless life, died on the cross for me, and were raised from the dead.

Thank you for saving me.

In Jesus’ Name… Amen.”

Publically Profess Your faith.

Now that you’ve made your personal confession, it’s time to let people know that you’re a born-again believer!
